Hi there.
Struggling a little with a Samsung HD502HI EcoGreen 500GB SATA drive working in my DTI6300.
Has anyone else had a problem with these Ecogreen drives?
After several months of the drive sitting in a draw I finally got round to swapping out the 160GB IDE drive out for this SATA drive, (plus the SATA<->IDE adapter)
Followed the instructions in the sticky but but it does not appear to want to format the drive. The red light comes on and the green light flashes 6 or so times then back to just red - not the 3 minutes as per the instructions. The dti6300 starts up OK but it does not see a drive.
Tried to force the format a few drives and re-seat the leads, but although I can see power to the adapter the drive will not do anything other than spin up.
I plugged the unit + the adapter into my PC and it appears to have 3 new partitions on it or various sizes. I can reform the drive ok so its not dead, and the adapter seems to work OK.
Any advise appreciated.

OK, so an update.
Replaced the original 160GB IDE drive and it works fine. However I noticed one of the two 1000uF 16V caps was bulging at the top.
I bought replacement items for these when I got the drives so I am wondering if this is the cause of the issue.
The caps I was sent with are far fatter than the caps in the DTI6300, so if I do replace them I just hope they will fit in.
If this is the problem, its funny the 160GB drive works whereas the 500GB EGogreen doesn't.
Do these larger, albeit Eco-friendly SATA units draw more current than stock 160GB IDE units??
Cheers

i would think about changing your ide to sata adaptor as this could be the root problem.
as for the two knackered caps, take a look in the technical stuff section on this site, there is a guide there with plenty of info on repairing your power supply.
the two capacitors are 1000uf 16v ones, there sizes are h20 w10.
you can get them at rs or farnell. look for panasonic fm or fr series caps.
These are the best capacitors to upgrade your psu.
keep away from buying them from maplins. They will palm you off with crappy jamicon ones that are not suitable for a switch mode power supply. _________________ Some women believe they can never be wrong when dealing with a man !!!! |
